Washington, D.C. — One year into President Donald Trump’s second term, multiple national polls indicate that more voters believe former President Joe Biden performed better in office.
Surveys from Harvard CAPS/Harris, Rasmussen Reports and YouGov/Economist each found pluralities or slim majorities saying Trump is doing a worse job than Biden did. In the Harvard CAPS/Harris poll, 51% of registered voters said Trump is performing worse than Biden, compared with 49% who said he is doing better. Rasmussen Reports found 48% of likely voters favored Biden’s performance, versus 40% who chose Trump. The YouGov/Economist poll showed 46% of adults saying Trump is doing worse than Biden, while 40% said better.
The polling shift comes despite Trump’s campaign pledges to curb inflation and tighten border security. White House spokesperson Kush Desai said the administration remains focused on economic growth and immigration enforcement.
Other polling has shown declining approval ratings for Trump on the economy and immigration, issues that were central to his electoral coalition. At the same time, Gallup reports broader public pessimism about the country’s direction, with optimism at its lowest level in nearly two decades.
