Former Vice President Kamala Harris strongly criticized the Senate-passed “big, beautiful bill” on Tuesday, warning it would strip health care, food aid, and energy relief from millions of Americans. “Thanks to Senate Republicans, 17 million people will lose their health care,” she posted on X, citing Congressional Budget Office projections reported by The Washington Post.
Harris also warned of rising energy bills, rural hospital closures, and cuts to food assistance for veterans and seniors. Though she’s kept a low profile since the 2024 election, the statement marks her first public comment on the legislation. Rumors persist she may run for California governor.
The GOP-backed bill narrowly passed the Senate with Vice President JD Vance’s tie-breaking vote and now returns to the House. Several House Republicans, including Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), voiced opposition to the Senate’s changes.
Harris urged constituents to pressure their lawmakers, writing, “There is still time to stop this bill.”
