Former Vice President Kamala Harris is the leading contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, according to a new Morning Consult poll. Harris, the party’s 2024 nominee, holds 36% support among Democratic voters and Democratic-leaning independents.

Following Harris is former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg with 10%. He recently ruled out a 2028 statewide run in Michigan. No other candidate polled in double digits, and 13% of respondents remain undecided.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and California Gov. Gavin Newsom each garnered 5% support. Billionaire Mark Cuban and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro followed at 4%, while Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) received 3%.

Other names earning over 1% include Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN).

A separate poll last year by Puck News/Echelon Insights also showed Harris with a commanding 41% of likely Democratic voter support for 2028.
