Texas, along with 15 other GOP-led states, filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration over a new immigration policy known as “Keeping Families Together.” The policy allows undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens to adjust their status without leaving the country, a process that previously discouraged many due to the risk of being barred from reentry.
The lawsuit, supported by Stephen Miller’s America First Legal, argues that the rule violates immigration laws and the Administrative Procedures Act. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton criticized the policy, claiming it grants citizenship opportunities to “unvetted aliens,” though applicants must undergo background checks and meet strict criteria.
The Biden administration condemned the lawsuit, labeling it as a political move that harms American families by forcing them to live in the shadows. White House spokesperson Angelo Fernández Hernández emphasized the policy’s goal of keeping families together and contributing to the economy.
The Department of Homeland Security, responsible for the rule, has yet to comment.
