Moscow, Russia — Russia signaled strong support for Cuba following escalating tensions with the United States, after President Donald Trump suggested the U.S. could “take” control of the island nation.

Kremlin officials said Moscow stands in “unwavering solidarity” with Cuba and condemned what it described as interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state. The statement comes as the U.S. increases economic pressure on Havana, including an energy blockade that has worsened fuel shortages and strained Cuba’s aging power infrastructure.

The situation has contributed to severe disruptions across the island, including a widespread power outage that left millions without electricity. Russia indicated it remains in contact with Cuban leadership and is prepared to provide financial and material assistance to help stabilize the country’s economy.

Trump has also reportedly pushed for leadership changes in Cuba, further raising geopolitical tensions. Russia’s response reflects broader global divisions as the U.S. continues its military campaign in Iran, with Moscow positioning itself in opposition to Washington’s actions.
