WASHINGTON, DC — The Executive Office of the President registered the domain aliens.gov early Wednesday morning, signaling renewed federal attention on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), commonly known as UFOs. The domain currently has no active website, but its creation follows recent statements from former President Donald Trump indicating plans to release government files related to extraterrestrial activity.
Interest in UAPs has grown in recent years, driven by congressional hearings, Pentagon-released footage, and bipartisan efforts led by lawmakers such as Sen. Chuck Schumer to declassify government records. While some investigations have fueled public curiosity, reporting has also suggested that portions of past UFO narratives may have been influenced by disinformation or internal military practices.
The topic resurfaced recently after former President Barack Obama commented in an interview that while extraterrestrial life may exist, there is no confirmed evidence of alien contact with Earth. Trump later responded, suggesting Obama may have disclosed classified information, though he did not confirm belief in extraterrestrials.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said he would direct federal agencies to identify and release files tied to UAPs and extraterrestrial life, continuing a broader pattern of declassification efforts involving historically secretive topics.
The registration of aliens.gov appears to align with that initiative, though no timeline for public disclosures has been formally announced.
