Russian authorities have detained a 33-year-old woman with dual Russian-American citizenship in Yekaterinburg, suspecting her of treason for her efforts to support Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia financially. The Federal Security Service (FSB) accused her of aiding Ukraine since 2022 by collecting funds used for medical supplies, equipment, weapons, and ammunition, activities they claim threaten Russia’s security. She is also noted for participating in pro-Ukraine public actions in the U.S.

Charged under article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code, she faces 12 to 20 years in prison and possible confiscation of property, currently held under pre-trial custody. This incident adds to a series of detentions involving foreign and dual nationals in Russia, including U.S. national Robert Romanov Woodland and reporter Evan Gershkovich.
