WASHINGTON, D.C. — Attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) reacted strongly when chairman Matt Schlapp asked about the prospect of impeachment hearings involving President Donald Trump.

During the event, Schlapp asked the audience whether they would support impeachment hearings, prompting applause from some in attendance. He then suggested that maintaining a Republican House majority was the more important priority, drawing broader support from the crowd.

The exchange, which has circulated widely online, comes as discussions about impeachment remain largely theoretical. Democrats currently lack the congressional majorities needed to initiate proceedings, though some have raised concerns related to the administration’s handling of foreign policy issues.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries described impeachment as a constitutional mechanism for holding a president accountable but did not signal immediate plans for action.

Trump was impeached twice during his first term, and any future impeachment effort would depend on shifts in congressional control following upcoming elections.
