Ocasio-Cortez told journalist Pablo Manríquez that media outlets have an ethical obligation not to platform false claims that undermine elections. She said her view depends on the speech’s actual content, but warned against airing statements that are not “rooted in evidence and fact.”
Trump has teased “big news” for the primetime address, saying it will focus on voting machines, election integrity, and other topics. Reuters reported that the White House has considered whether to discuss declassified intelligence related to alleged foreign interference attempts, though reports have not shown evidence of changed vote totals.
