Davenport, Iowa — An Iowa chiropractor accused of leaving a patient paralyzed after a neck adjustment has agreed to surrender his license.
The Iowa Board of Chiropractic charged L. Anthony Dietrich with professional incompetence, alleging he failed to meet minimum accepted standards of care during a July 2024 treatment. Dietrich had been licensed in Iowa since 1998.
According to the board, Dietrich treated a patient’s cervical spine without first performing an initial examination or obtaining a proper medical history. During the session, the patient allegedly lost feeling in his hands and later suffered sustained paralysis, becoming quadriplegic.
Court records identified the patient as Randy Lee White, who sued Dietrich in October 2024. The lawsuit alleged White went to Dietrich Chiropractic in Davenport after experiencing neck pain and arm tingling. After the adjustment, he was taken by ambulance to Genesis Medical Center and later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals for emergency surgery.
The lawsuit alleged White remained quadriplegic and lost bowel and bladder function. Dietrich denied wrongdoing. The lawsuit was dismissed in September 2025, with no public mention of a settlement.
Under the licensing agreement, Dietrich may apply for reinstatement after one year.
