The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic held its final meeting Wednesday, marking the end of two years of work. While Republicans highlighted their findings, including support for the theory that SARS-CoV-2 likely originated from a lab leak in Wuhan, Democrats criticized the efforts as politically motivated and insufficient for addressing future pandemic preparedness.
Subcommittee Chair Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) emphasized the investigation’s focus on holding “bad actors accountable,” citing the 520-page final report as evidence of significant progress. Ranking Member Raul Ruiz (D-Calif.) disagreed, expressing disappointment that the panel failed to unite on solutions for future pandemics, stating, “We are leaving with different impressions of what we did or did not find.”
Despite the subcommittee’s dissolution 30 days after filing its report, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) affirmed that the full committee will continue seeking withheld records and answers.
