Federal immigration authorities arrested the wife of an active-duty Coast Guardsman at the U.S. Naval Air Station Key West this week after a routine security check flagged her for a prior removal order, officials confirmed Saturday.
According to a Coast Guard spokesperson, the woman, who is not a service member, was detained by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) based on a lawful removal order. A U.S. official said her work visa had expired in 2017, and she was ordered removed a few years later. She married the Coast Guardsman earlier this year.
The couple was attempting to move into government housing when the spouse’s name was flagged during a visitor pass screening. NCIS and Coast Guard security, with approval from the base commander, coordinated with HSI to make the arrest.
The woman’s nationality has not been disclosed, and ICE has not yet commented. She remains in federal custody.
