Rep. Katie Porter, following her defeat in the California Senate primary, has reiterated her stance that wealthy individuals unfairly influenced the race. In a statement on X, she expressed gratitude to her supporters for challenging the status quo in Washington, despite facing significant financial opposition. Porter specified her use of “rigged” to describe the influence of millions in attack ads funded by a few billionaires, which she views as a manipulation of the political process. She clarified that her criticism is not directed at the integrity of the vote count or election procedures, which she respects.

In the California Senate race, Rep. Adam Schiff and Republican Steve Garvey advanced to the general election, leaving Porter and Rep. Barbara Lee out of the running. The candidates were competing for the seat left vacant by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Schiff, with a more substantial campaign fund and super PAC support, benefited from strategies that aimed to place Porter third, potentially making the general election a more straightforward contest against Garvey. Voter turnout in California was notably low, with demographics skewing older and whiter, factors believed to disadvantage Porter, who appeals more to younger voters.
