President Joe Biden marked his final Christmas Eve in office by signing a series of notable laws addressing youth protection, campus safety, and national recognitions. Among them was the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act, a measure championed by celebrity advocate Paris Hilton. The law, passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, aims to hold youth care facilities accountable for abuse. Hilton, who has hinted at possible political aspirations, celebrated the legislative victory.

Biden also signed the Stop Campus Hazing Act, requiring colleges to include hazing incidents in their annual security reports. This bipartisan initiative, led by Reps. Lucy McBath (D-Ga.) and Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.), targets the widespread problem of hazing in campus organizations.

Several post offices and federal buildings were renamed to honor distinguished Americans. A Bastrop, Texas, post office now commemorates Sgt. Major Billy D. Waugh, a decorated soldier and CIA officer, while a San Francisco facility was renamed for the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). Federal VA clinics in Virginia and Oklahoma now bear the names of WWII medic Desmond T. Doss and the late Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.). The Paul S. Sarbanes Visitor Center in Baltimore honors the late Maryland senator.

In a symbolic move, Biden formalized the bald eagle as the nation’s official bird. Additionally, he issued pardons for federal death row inmates, concluding his term with impactful legislative achievements and gestures of compassion. The presidency will transfer to Donald Trump in January.
