Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) renewed his criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, labeling Israel’s actions in Gaza as “ethnic cleansing.” Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sanders emphasized the devastating impact on Palestinians, including a staggering death toll and mass displacement.
Sanders responded to Rep. Ilhan Omar’s remarks about pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses, asserting that Netanyahu’s actions—which involve displacing 80 percent of Gaza’s population—constitute ethnic cleansing. He also addressed concerns about antisemitism, acknowledging that the term “genocide” is under scrutiny by the International Court of Justice.
Despite the ongoing conflict, Sanders has consistently criticized Netanyahu and called for an end to U.S. funding for Israel’s actions in Gaza. The situation remains tense, with the possibility of an attack on Rafah, a supposed safety zone, adding to the outrage.
