GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA — The University of Florida is moving to deactivate the campus College Republicans chapter after learning that some members engaged in antisemitic behavior, according to university officials.

School administrators said the decision followed notification from the Florida Federation of College Republicans, which disbanded the Gainesville chapter after determining that certain members had engaged in conduct violating its rules and values, including a recent antisemitic gesture.

University officials said the chapter’s status as a registered student organization will remain inactive until the federation reorganizes the group with new leadership. Once that occurs, the university said it would assist in restoring the organization.

The action comes during a series of controversies involving Republican student groups. Earlier this month, Florida International University launched an investigation into a group chat involving a local Republican Party official that reportedly contained racist slurs, antisemitic comments, and misogynistic language. Similar incidents involving young Republican groups have surfaced in other states in recent months.
