MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said he will attend a “No Kings” rally this weekend following a large-scale federal immigration enforcement operation that took place earlier this year in the Twin Cities.

Walz announced his participation during an interview, stating, “We will never forget what happened here,” referring to Operation Metro Surge, a Department of Homeland Security effort that deployed thousands of agents to Minnesota. The operation ended in early February after two residents were shot and killed during enforcement actions.

The Democratic governor described the operation as causing “generational trauma” and said protests are part of a broader response from residents and state officials. He also pointed to ongoing legal challenges against the Trump administration and legislative efforts to withhold funding from DHS until reforms are enacted.

More than 3,000 “No Kings” events are planned nationwide, with organizers framing the protests as opposition to what they describe as authoritarian policies. Walz suggested Minnesota has become a model for resistance efforts.

The Trump administration has defended its immigration enforcement strategy, and leadership changes at DHS followed the operation’s conclusion. The protests are expected to draw national attention as political tensions surrounding immigration enforcement continue.
