UNION TOWNSHIP, NJ — At least six people were shot, including one fatally, during a shooting at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Union Township, New Jersey, on Saturday night, according to preliminary reports.
Authorities said the incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. at a location on Route 22. Multiple victims were transported to hospitals, while one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released the identities of those involved.
Witnesses described a chaotic situation as gunfire erupted inside or near the restaurant, sending patrons fleeing. Reports indicate multiple masked individuals may have entered the establishment before the shooting began, though law enforcement has not confirmed those details.
The Gun Violence Archive identified the incident as the 100th mass shooting in the United States this year, defining such events as those with four or more victims injured or killed.
Local prosecutors are leading the investigation, and authorities have not announced any arrests or identified a motive. New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill said she had been briefed on the situation and expressed concern for the victims and their families.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue gathering details.
