Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump’s executive assistant Natalie Harp is facing renewed scrutiny after a former White House official said Harp’s intense devotion to Trump unsettled campaign staff and even alarmed Secret Service personnel.
Sarah Matthews, who served as a deputy White House press secretary during Trump’s first term, said Harp repeatedly contacted her during the 2020 campaign asking how she could become more helpful to Trump. Matthews said it was clear Harp wanted to remain inside Trump’s political orbit.
Harp has since become one of Trump’s closest aides. She reportedly helps control access to information reaching the president and is among the few aides authorized to publish posts through his Truth Social account. Court filings in a separate lawsuit describe Harp as one of two aides with direct access to the account.
Matthews also accused Harp of supplying Trump with inflammatory social-media material and described her as someone who regularly provides flattering news and commentary.
Harp’s unusual devotion has attracted additional attention following reports that she once rode in the trunk area of an SUV after arguing with staff over being excluded from a presidential motorcade.
Trump has continued to rely heavily on Harp despite concerns reportedly raised within his political operation. Other accounts describe her as a trusted aide who frequently travels with the president and handles sensitive communications.
