Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump brought cryptocurrency executives and federal regulators to the White House Wednesday as he pressed Congress to pass legislation giving the industry clearer rules, while his family’s extensive crypto holdings continued to raise conflict-of-interest concerns.

Trump urged lawmakers to approve a “fair version” of the Clarity Act, which would establish whether digital assets fall under securities or commodities law and divide oversight between the SEC and Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev and Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi were among the executives attending.

The meeting also included SEC Chair Paul Atkins and CFTC Chair Michael Selig. Both agencies have moved toward substantially more crypto-friendly regulation under Trump, including proposed exemptions that would make it easier for companies to issue tokens and raise capital.

Sludge reported that several participating companies have financial relationships with Trump-family crypto ventures or have contributed money to Trump-aligned political committees and projects.

Those connections have become a central obstacle to broader crypto legislation. Reuters reported that many Democrats and some Republicans want restrictions preventing elected officials from personally profiting from cryptocurrency ventures while shaping industry policy. Trump’s latest financial disclosures showed more than $1.4 billion in crypto-related family income last year.

Trump says he does not participate in day-to-day management of his family businesses, and the White House rejects allegations that his financial interests influence administration policy.
