Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump’s latest financial disclosure shows a sitting U.S. president taking in nearly $1.2 billion from crypto businesses last year, an arrangement with no real modern comparison among previous presidents.

The Associated Press reported that Trump received more than $500 million from World Liberty Financial, including sales of crypto “governance tokens,” and more than $600 million from CIC Digital LLC, which sold Trump-branded meme coins. Both products have fallen sharply in value since the sales, meaning Trump’s businesses locked in major revenue while many buyers absorbed losses.

Reuters reported separately that Trump disclosed more than $1.4 billion in crypto-related income, including almost $800 million connected to World Liberty Financial and about $635 million from Trump meme coin sales. Reuters also found earlier that the Trump family made about $2.3 billion from crypto ventures with little downside risk, while investors lost about the same amount on paper.

The ethics concerns are obvious. Trump’s administration has also moved to loosen regulation and promote crypto while his family businesses profit from the industry. The White House says Trump’s sons manage the business and denies conflicts of interest, but unlike recent presidents who used stronger conflict safeguards, Trump continues to benefit from a private business empire while governing.
