Broward County, Florida – Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate James Fishback said he created a Tinder account as part of an unconventional effort to connect with young female voters ahead of the GOP primary to succeed term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis. Fishback, 31, announced the move Monday on social media, saying he wanted to meet voters “where they are” and promote policies aimed at helping young families.

Fishback shared a screenshot of his Tinder profile, which highlighted support for paid maternity leave and proposals to make it easier for young people to buy homes and raise children. Shortly after posting, Fishback asked supporters for donations to upgrade to Tinder Plus, saying he had quickly run out of likes on the app.

The hedge fund manager is running in a crowded Republican primary and currently trails Rep. Byron Donalds, who has been endorsed by President Trump. A recent Patriot Polling survey found more than 37 percent of likely GOP primary voters favored Donalds, compared with roughly 22 percent who said they were more likely to support Fishback.

Fishback’s campaign has drawn controversy beyond the Tinder announcement. He has directed racially charged attacks at Donalds during the race. Separately, NBC News previously reported that Broward County Public Schools severed ties with Fishback in 2022 following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student. Fishback has denied wrongdoing, calling the claims false.
