MIAMI, Florida — Florida International University has opened an investigation into a student group chat tied to a Miami-Dade Republican Party official that allegedly included racist, antisemitic, and misogynistic messages.

According to the Miami Herald, the chat involved students and several conservative campus leaders connected to Florida International University.

University officials said campus police are investigating the matter and coordinating with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

In a statement, FIU President Jeanette Nuñez said the university would not tolerate hateful behavior. “FIU does not and will not tolerate violence, hate, discrimination, harassment, racism or antisemitism,” she said. “This is not who we are. This is not what FIU stands for.”

The Republican Party of Florida also condemned the messages and said it had launched an internal review. Party officials described the remarks as “repugnant comments” that are “completely contrary” to the organization’s values.

A spokesperson for the Republican Jewish Coalition echoed that condemnation, saying antisemitism and bigotry have no place in the Republican Party.

The controversy follows similar incidents involving political group chats. Last year, New York’s Republican State Committee suspended a Young Republicans organization after messages surfaced that included rape jokes and references to gas chambers.
