PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman remains hospitalized after experiencing a ventricular fibrillation flare-up that caused light-headedness and a fall during an early morning walk near his home in Braddock. His office said Thursday that he suffered minor facial injuries and chose to remain under observation as doctors adjust his medications.

A spokesperson described how the arrhythmia episode occurred moments before Fetterman collapsed, prompting emergency evaluation. “If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now,” the senator joked through his spokesman. Lawmakers are currently in their home states during a recess following passage of a recent funding bill, making Fetterman’s recovery timeline relevant ahead of next week’s Senate return.

The incident adds to a series of health challenges the senator has navigated in recent years, including a 2022 stroke and a six-week clinical depression treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Reports earlier this year also detailed internal concerns among staff, including accounts of emotional strain during meetings with education representatives in Pennsylvania.

New York Magazine previously published comments from Fetterman’s former chief of staff expressing fears that he had drifted from aspects of his medical care, criticisms the senator dismissed as a “hit piece.” Fetterman has maintained that recent tensions reflect heightened political and policy frustrations rather than broader health-related decline.
