MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Federal and state law enforcement agencies carried out coordinated raids across the Twin Cities on Tuesday as part of an expanding investigation into alleged fraud involving public assistance programs.
Authorities executed 22 search warrants at businesses in Minneapolis and St. Paul, many linked to childcare and Medicaid-funded services.
The Department of Justice said the actions were part of an ongoing criminal investigation into suspected fraud involving taxpayer funds. Homeland Security Investigations confirmed the operation, calling it a response to “rampant fraud” affecting public programs.
Officials emphasized the raids were not tied to immigration enforcement. The investigation follows earlier federal probes into large-scale fraud schemes in Minnesota, including cases involving hundreds of millions of dollars.
Republican officials, including House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, praised the enforcement effort, while Democratic Gov. Tim Walz also supported the operation, stating that collaboration between agencies is key to identifying and prosecuting fraud.
Authorities have not yet announced charges tied to Tuesday’s raids, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
