MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Friday that Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, the Mexican national at the center of the federal case against Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan, has been deported. Flores-Ruiz, 31, pleaded guilty earlier this year to illegally reentering the United States after a prior deportation in 2013.
DHS posted on X, “Eduardo Flores-Ruiz has been DEPORTED,” adding that Judge Dugan’s alleged actions “take ‘activist judge’ to a whole new meaning.” Flores-Ruiz, who worked in the restaurant industry for over a decade, was charged with misdemeanor battery after a fight with his roommate in April. Federal agents attempted to arrest him during a court hearing before Dugan allegedly led him out a side door. He was later detained by officers.
Dugan was indicted in May on federal obstruction and concealment charges and has pleaded not guilty. The Wisconsin Supreme Court suspended her pending trial, scheduled for December 15.
DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said Flores-Ruiz had a “laundry list” of violent charges, including battery and domestic abuse. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) previously called Dugan’s arrest “a drastic move,” criticizing the Trump administration for “attacking the judicial system.”
