Bryan, Texas – House Democratic staffers visited the federal prison camp holding Ghislaine Maxwell this week, escalating questions over why Jeffrey Epstein’s convicted co-conspirator was transferred to the minimum-security Texas facility.
Reps. Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Robert Garcia of California said Bureau of Prisons officials gave staffers a tour of Federal Prison Camp Bryan but did not answer key questions about Maxwell’s transfer, alleged special treatment, and whistleblower claims involving retaliation and sexual abuse at the facility.
Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking and related charges. She was moved from a federal prison in Florida to the Bryan camp last year after speaking with then-Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche about the Epstein case. Democrats have questioned whether the transfer followed normal prison rules, while Maxwell’s attorneys have denied that she is receiving improper benefits.
Garcia told CNN that staffers found Maxwell was the only convicted sex offender among roughly 600 inmates and were not allowed to question her. He described the facility as “park-like,” citing fountains, trees, and room for inmates to walk.
The Bureau of Prisons has denied preferential treatment allegations. Raskin and Garcia said their investigation remains ongoing.
