Minneapolis, Minnesota — A renewed public clash between politics and entertainment unfolded this week as President Donald Trump called on supporters to boycott concerts by rock musician Bruce Springsteen following criticism delivered onstage.
Trump, posting on Truth Social, labeled Springsteen a “bad and very boring singer” and urged MAGA supporters to avoid his “Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour.” The president also mocked the artist personally, calling him a “total loser who spews hate.”
The comments came after Springsteen opened his tour in Minneapolis on March 31 and sharply criticized the administration, describing it as “corrupt, incompetent, racist, reckless and treasonous.” He indicated the tour would focus heavily on current political issues.
Springsteen responded indirectly, stating he remains committed to speaking openly regardless of backlash. “My job is very simple: I do what I want to do,” he said in an interview, adding he has developed “a pretty thick skin” over decades in the industry.
The dispute reflects a long-running feud between Trump and the musician dating back to the 2016 election. Springsteen has consistently criticized Trump’s policies and endorsed Democratic candidates, including Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024.
Despite the heated rhetoric, the exchange underscores broader tensions between political figures and prominent cultural voices, particularly as artists increasingly incorporate political messaging into live performances.
