A new Reuters-Ipsos poll reveals that 62% of self-identified Democrats believe it’s time for a change in party leadership, following major losses in the 2024 elections. Only 24% support retaining the current leadership, while 14% remain undecided.
The party has faced turmoil since losing the White House and both chambers of Congress. Discontent has grown over the direction of the Democratic National Committee under Chairman Ken Martin, who has been criticized as “weak” and “whiny.” Martin’s leadership came under further scrutiny after a leaked recording revealed him questioning his fitness to lead.
High-profile resignations have exacerbated the internal rift. Union leaders Randi Weingarten and Lee Saunders resigned from DNC roles, citing exclusion from decision-making. Former Vice Chair David Hogg also stepped down after ongoing tensions with Martin.
Meanwhile, the DNC’s cash reserves dropped by $4 million between January and April, while the Republican National Committee reported a $29 million surge.
