Senate lawmakers are set to question acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe on Tuesday regarding lapses in law enforcement before the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. Rowe, who recently replaced Kimberly Cheatle, will appear alongside FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate at a joint Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security committee hearing.

The hearing follows the FBI’s release of details about the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, who researched mass shootings and other violent topics online. Trump is scheduled to be interviewed by the FBI as a crime victim on Thursday.

Lawmakers are expected to scrutinize Rowe on how Crooks managed to fire eight shots at Trump from a nearby rooftop, killing one rallygoer and injuring two others, before being killed by a Secret Service sniper. Cheatle had admitted significant failures in the Secret Service’s operations, including missed warnings about Crooks and identified vulnerabilities.

In a recent Fox News interview, Trump defended the agents but criticized communication gaps and emphasized the need for quicker action.
