Special Counsel David Weiss issued his final report on Hunter Biden’s case after President Biden granted his son an unconditional pardon last month. Hunter Biden became the first sitting president’s child to face criminal charges, pleading guilty to felony tax violations and being convicted of gun charges.
Weiss criticized the president for calling the prosecution unfair, labeling those claims as baseless and damaging to the Justice Department’s reputation. Weiss emphasized that Hunter Biden knowingly broke the law, citing his failure to pay taxes despite available funds.
Weiss also addressed fabricated allegations by ex-FBI informant Alexander Smirnov, who was sentenced to six years for lying about bribery claims involving Hunter Biden. Weiss defended the investigation’s impartiality, stating personal or political considerations did not influence decisions.
Weiss was initially appointed U.S. Attorney for Delaware under Trump and later named special counsel in 2023.
