Washington, D.C. — House Democrats are set to introduce articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, accusing him of misconduct tied to U.S. military actions abroad.
The resolution, led by Rep. Yassamin Ansari of Arizona and backed by several Democratic lawmakers, outlines five articles alleging war crimes, abuse of power, and obstruction of congressional oversight. The effort follows scrutiny of U.S. strikes related to the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
Three of the articles focus on military operations carried out without congressional authorization, alleging the actions endangered U.S. service members and civilians. Lawmakers also cited reports of strikes that resulted in civilian casualties, including an incident involving a school in Iran.
Another article addresses a communications breach involving the Signal messaging app, where sensitive discussions among top officials were inadvertently shared. Lawmakers described the episode as evidence of “careless and improper conduct.”
The final article accuses Hegseth of undermining public trust in the Pentagon, referencing policy decisions affecting military personnel and internal programs.
The Pentagon rejected the allegations, calling the impeachment effort politically motivated and defending the department’s actions as aligned with presidential objectives.
The measure faces uncertain prospects in Congress.
