DOVER, DELAWARE — President Donald Trump attributed a forceful anti-nuclear position to four fallen service members Wednesday as he traveled to receive their remains, drawing renewed criticism from former Republican ally Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Before attending the dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base, Trump said without evidence the service members had stated “very strongly” that the United States could not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon. He did not explain when they allegedly made those remarks or provide evidence supporting the attribution.
The ceremony honored Sgt. Angel Rampersad, 1st Lt. Tyler Feehan, Pvt. Isabella Gonzales and Sgt. Michael Swinton. Three were killed in an Iranian missile strike on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. Swinton died during the controlled detonation of an Iranian drone in Iraq.
Greene separately attacked Trump after he posted comparisons between the 18 American deaths in the Iran conflict and casualties from previous wars. She said the president appeared to be “bragging” about the relatively low total and accused him of abandoning his campaign image as a peace-oriented president.
The dispute reflects a growing split within Trump’s political coalition over a war that has killed 18 U.S. service members, wounded hundreds and raised fuel prices as fighting approaches its fifth month.
