The U.S. was informed of the completion of Iran’s strike on Israel through Swiss channels, according to a senior administration official. The U.S. had direct communications with Iran via this channel as the attack was ongoing. Iran indicated that they were finished after the ongoing attack.

In response to an earlier strike that killed members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps at an Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, Iran launched a drone and missile attack against Israel. With assistance from the U.S. and other partners, Israel intercepted 99% of the munitions.

The official refuted claims that Iran provided a 72-hour warning about its attack on Israel. “They did not give a notification… They were clearly intending to destroy and to cause casualties,” the official stated.

The attack did not result in significant damage. The Biden administration has stressed that it is not seeking a wider war with Iran following the attack.

President Biden reaffirmed America’s commitment to Israel’s security in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Israel demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks,” Biden stated.
