WASHINGTON, D.C. — A United Nations watchdog panel has accused President Donald Trump and other U.S. political leaders of using “racist hate speech” tied to the administration’s immigration crackdown, drawing a sharp response from the White House.

The criticism came Wednesday from the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), which released a report warning that rhetoric from senior political figures combined with intensified immigration enforcement had “sparked grave human rights violations.” According to the panel, derogatory language portraying migrants and asylum seekers as criminals or societal burdens may fuel racial discrimination and hate crimes.

The report also criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection, alleging the agencies have engaged in racial profiling and arbitrary identity checks targeting people of Latino, African, and Asian backgrounds. It further cited deaths linked to immigration enforcement operations this year and warned about the broader impact on civil rights and migrant protections.

The White House dismissed the report, accusing the United Nations of bias. Spokesperson Olivia Wales said the president’s immigration policies have helped reduce crime and improve border security, arguing that Americans are “living in a safer, stronger country than ever before.”

Immigration enforcement has remained a central policy of Trump’s second term after he campaigned heavily on the issue during the 2024 election.
