British Prime Minister Keir Starmer criticized Elon Musk for spreading “lies and misinformation” that undermine democracy, following Musk’s repeated attacks on Starmer and his record. Musk, who owns X and has been tapped to co-lead President-elect Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency,” has amplified far-right political movements and called for new elections in the UK.
Musk accused Starmer of failing as a prosecutor to act on cases involving sexual crimes, allegations Starmer refuted. He defended his tenure as director of public prosecutions, stating he reopened cases and prosecuted grooming gangs.
Starmer argued the greater issue was UK politicians amplifying Musk’s claims, accusing some Conservatives of being “desperate for attention.” He emphasized the importance of truth in democracy, warning of the dangers of losing that foundation. Musk dismissed Starmer’s comments, calling them “insane” and labeling the prime minister “utterly despicable.”
