The Trump administration approved a $7 billion arms sale to Israel just days after Congress blocked an earlier deal. The package includes $6.75 billion in munitions, guidance kits, and 2,166 small-diameter bombs, along with 3,000 Hellfire missiles worth $660 million. The missile deliveries will begin in 2028.
The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) stated the sale enhances Israel’s defense capabilities and deterrence. The approval came two days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington.
Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) criticized the administration for bypassing Congress, calling it a rejection of legislative oversight. Congress had recently halted a $1 billion arms transfer, including 4,700 bombs and armored bulldozers. Meeks stressed the need for proper review before approval.
