At a campaign event in North Carolina, former President Donald Trump pledged to retaliate against Iran by “blowing it to smithereens” if Tehran carried out threats against him. Trump’s remarks followed intelligence briefings regarding alleged Iranian assassination plots targeting him.

“If you do anything to harm this person, we are going to blow your largest cities… to smithereens,” Trump stated. His comments came as Congress advanced legislation to enhance his Secret Service protection.

Trump linked two recent assassination attempts on his life to Iran, although he admitted uncertainty about the country’s involvement. He criticized current leadership, saying, “Right now we don’t have the necessary leaders.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke at the U.N. General Assembly in New York this week, as Trump continued his campaign in the battleground state of North Carolina. Polls indicate a close race between him and Vice President Kamala Harris.
