President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he will sign an executive order reversing Biden-era policies promoting paper straws in federal settings. “I will be signing an Executive Order next week ending the ridiculous Biden push for Paper Straws, which don’t work. BACK TO PLASTIC!” Trump wrote.
Biden’s 2022 policy directed federal agencies to phase out single-use plastics, including straws, by 2032. The Department of Interior implemented this order across national parks and federal lands. Trump already revoked Biden’s broader sustainability order on his first day back in office.
Republicans, including Trump, have long criticized paper straws, arguing they are inconvenient. During his 2020 campaign, Trump sold plastic straws as a jab at environmental policies. Supporters say paper straws dissolve too quickly, while environmental advocates argue they reduce plastic waste.
