LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo did not appear publicly alongside President Donald Trump during a Las Vegas event promoting a tax break for tipped workers, drawing attention as economic concerns persist in the state.
Trump visited the city to highlight provisions in his tax and spending law, including a deduction on tipped income of up to $25,000. While Lombardo did not attend the public event, his office said he planned to meet privately with the president during the visit.
In a statement, Lombardo thanked Trump for supporting policies such as deductions on tips and overtime, while expressing interest in discussing housing, energy projects, and economic issues affecting Nevada.
The absence comes as rising gas prices and slowing tourism have impacted the state’s economy. Trump addressed those concerns during the event, saying the ongoing conflict involving Iran “is going swimmingly” and predicting improvements in fuel costs.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent attributed higher gas prices in Nevada to regional energy dynamics, while federal projections have suggested elevated prices could persist due to global disruptions.
