President Trump announced Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accepted a U.S.-sponsored peace plan aimed at ending nearly two years of war in Gaza, though uncertainty remains over whether Hamas will agree.

At a joint White House press conference, Trump said the two leaders were “beyond very close” to a deal. The 20-point U.S. proposal includes an immediate ceasefire, exchange of hostages and prisoners, phased Israeli withdrawal, Hamas disarmament, and the creation of a transitional international authority to govern Gaza.

Netanyahu endorsed the plan, saying it would achieve Israel’s goals of freeing hostages, dismantling Hamas’ military structure, and preventing future threats. Still, his government remains divided over provisions related to Palestinian statehood and the Palestinian Authority’s potential role in postwar governance.

Hamas has yet to formally respond but confirmed that mediators from Qatar and Egypt shared the document. A spokesperson said the group would review it “in good faith.”

The plan, shaped by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner, outlines a long-term pathway to Palestinian statehood, though details remain vague. Analysts caution that Hamas’ disarmament and Netanyahu’s political constraints could hinder progress.
