President Trump is entering a politically turbulent phase of his second term, with approval ratings falling and public scrutiny intensifying over his administration’s handling of the Epstein files. A Decision Desk HQ average placed his net approval at over nine points underwater this week, driven largely by declines among independents and disapproval of his immigration policies.
Trump had seen a modest polling rebound earlier this summer, following key wins like his “big, beautiful bill,” a favorable Supreme Court ruling on injunctions, and a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. However, approval has since dropped across multiple measures. Gallup’s latest poll shows his job approval at 37%, with just 29% support among independents.
Polls from Reuters/Ipsos and AP-NORC found Trump’s immigration approval at record lows, a notable shift given the issue has long been a strength for him. Democrats cite inflation and aggressive ICE raids as compounding factors.
The Epstein case has also fueled backlash, with an Emerson poll showing only 16% of voters approve of his handling. While his GOP base remains solid, Republican strategists acknowledge missteps and urge the administration to release documents and move on.
