Donald Trump on Wednesday launched a new website, trumpcard.gov, allowing users to register interest in a proposed “Gold Card” that would grant U.S. permanent residency to foreign applicants willing to pay $5 million.
The card is envisioned as a replacement for the EB-5 investor visa, a program established in 1990 that offers green cards in exchange for qualifying business investments. Trump’s version would drastically raise the price and streamline the process under executive control.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed the initiative could result in 1 million units sold, theoretically raising enough revenue to eliminate the national debt.
Currently, the website only collects names, email addresses, and regions of interest. Further details—such as eligibility criteria, legal viability, or rollout timeline—remain unclear.
It’s uncertain whether the administration can fully replace or terminate EB-5 without congressional approval. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick previously indicated the rollout was imminent but did not explain delays.
Critics have questioned the legality and equity of selling green cards at such a high cost, while supporters frame it as a bold revenue-generating immigration reform.
