President Donald Trump signed an executive order cutting all U.S. aid to South Africa and directing his Cabinet to develop a resettlement program for Afrikaners, whom he claims face “unjust racial discrimination.” The order criticizes South Africa’s new land law, which allows property seizures without compensation, and the country’s stance on Israel, accusing it of taking “aggressive positions.”
Trump’s order states that U.S. aid will remain suspended as long as South Africa engages in “unjust and immoral practices.” The move follows Trump’s recent Truth Social post labeling the Expropriation Act a “massive Human Rights VIOLATION.”
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa rejected Trump’s claims, asserting that the law ensures equitable land access within constitutional guidelines. Billionaire Elon Musk criticized the legislation, while U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced he would skip the G20 summit in Johannesburg, citing concerns over South Africa’s policies.
