WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the U.S. will launch strikes on Iranian power plants if the waterway remains closed.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote: “If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS… the United States… will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!”

Iran has effectively shut down the strategic shipping lane since the start of the conflict, disrupting global oil shipments and driving energy prices higher. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, with a significant share of global supply passing through it.

Trump had previously sought to reopen the strait through naval escorts and by urging allied nations to contribute forces, though those efforts saw limited participation. The latest threat signals a shift toward direct military escalation if Iran does not comply.

Global concerns remain high as tensions continue to impact energy markets and international shipping.
