New York, New York – President Donald Trump has settled his lawsuit against his niece, Mary Trump, over her alleged role in providing Trump family financial records to The New York Times for its 2018 investigation into his finances.

Reuters reported that both sides notified a New York state court on June 16 that they had reached a settlement. The terms were not disclosed. The parties said they expect to seek a formal dismissal with prejudice, meaning Trump could not bring the same lawsuit against Mary Trump again.

Trump filed the lawsuit in 2021, accusing Mary Trump of violating confidentiality provisions tied to a 2001 family estate settlement involving Fred Trump’s estate. He alleged she helped The New York Times obtain confidential tax records for its Pulitzer Prize-winning reporting on Trump’s wealth, taxes, and inheritance.

Mary Trump identified herself as a source for the reporting in her 2020 book, “Too Much and Never Enough.” She denied wrongdoing and argued the lawsuit was an attempt to punish her and the press.

Trump’s related claims against The New York Times and its reporters were dismissed in 2023, and he was ordered to pay their legal fees. A state appeals court later limited potential damages against Mary Trump to nominal damages.
