Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee announced a significant fundraising haul of $141 million in May, boosted by tens of millions raised following Trump’s guilty verdict in the criminal hush money trial. The campaign, not required to disclose its fundraising to the Federal Election Commission until later, chose to release the numbers early, viewing the contributions as a sign of energized support for Trump’s 2024 presidential bid.
Trump and the GOP reported raising $76 million in April, surpassing President Joe Biden and the Democratic National Committee’s $51 million. It remains unclear how much was spent in May, but the funds could help close the persistent money gap with Biden.
In May, Trump’s campaign received over two million donations, averaging $70.27, with 37.6% of contributions coming online within 24 hours of the verdict. About 25% of donors were new to the campaign.
Trump Campaign senior advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles stated, “The American people saw right through Crooked Joe Biden’s rigged trial and sent a powerful message – the REAL verdict will come on November 5th.”
Biden campaign spokesman Ammar Moussa noted, “Trump’s billionaire friends are propping up the campaign of a white-collar crook because they know the deal – they cut him checks and he cuts their taxes while working people and the middle class pay the tab.” Trump, the first former president convicted of a crime, will be sentenced on July 11.
