Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to its lowest level of his second term, according to a new New York Times/Siena College poll released Monday.

The survey found 37% of respondents approve of Trump’s job performance, while 59% disapprove. That marks a decline from January, when the same poll showed Trump with 40% approval and 57% disapproval.

The poll found major demographic divides in support for the president. Trump performed significantly better among men than women, with 45% of men approving compared with just 29% of women. Nonwhite voters overwhelmingly disapproved of Trump’s performance, including 83% of Black voters and 71% of Hispanic voters surveyed.

Trump continued to hold strong support among Republicans, with 82% approving of his presidency. Older voters also remained among his strongest demographic groups.

Pollsters found growing dissatisfaction with the administration’s handling of the war in Iran, which appears to be contributing to the declining numbers. Sixty-four percent of respondents said the war was the wrong decision, while only 30% supported it. A majority also said they believed the conflict would not be worth its long-term costs.

The results reflect broader political challenges facing the administration heading into the 2026 midterm election season, particularly among independent voters and suburban demographics that have become increasingly competitive in recent election cycles.

The New York Times/Siena survey was conducted May 11-15 among 1,507 respondents and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
