WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Treasury Department announced plans to include President Donald Trump’s signature on newly issued U.S. paper currency, marking what officials described as a first for a sitting president.
According to the announcement, the move is tied to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States and is intended to commemorate what officials called a period of economic strength and national significance. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the decision reflects “unprecedented economic growth” and continued global dominance of the U.S. dollar under Trump’s leadership.
Treasurer Brandon Beach also supported the initiative, calling it a symbolic recognition of what he described as a “Golden Age economic revival.” He said placing Trump’s signature on currency aligns with the milestone anniversary and reflects the administration’s view of its economic record.
The decision would apply to new paper currency issued during the commemorative period, though details on timing and denominations have not been fully outlined. Historically, U.S. currency has featured the signatures of the Treasury secretary and treasurer, making this a notable departure from precedent.
The announcement comes as the administration continues to highlight economic messaging ahead of the Semiquincentennial celebration.
