On Monday, The U.S. Supreme Court started hearing arguments in a significant case pitting LGBT rights against a claim that artists are immune from anti-discrimination laws due to their First Amendment freedom of expression.

In this instance, a web designer who practices evangelical Christianity refuses to work on same-sex unions.

Lorie Smith, a company owner in the Denver region, had appealed a Colorado statute that forbids discrimination based on sexual orientation and other reasons. The justices were considering her case.

According to civil rights organizations and others, this might result in widespread discrimination against LGBT individuals.
